The Third Eye - past, present and future

In trying to decide how to talk about the powers that may become available when the third eye opens, I realised that some people may not know about the third eye.

So I hope to rectify that problem by first probing history.

The third eye (also known as the inner eye) is a mystical and esoteric concept referring in part to the ajna (brow) chakra in certain spiritual traditions. It is also spoken of as the gate that leads within to inner realms and spaces of higher consciousness. In New Age spirituality, the third eye may alternately symbolize a state of enlightenment or the evocation of mental images having deeply personal spiritual or psychological significance. The third eye is often associated with visions, clairvoyance (which includes the ability to observe chakras and auras),[1] precognition, and out-of-body experiences. People who have allegedly developed the capacity to utilize their third eyes are sometimes known as seers.

Wikipedia also mentions:

Expanded clairvoyance
C.W. Leadbeater claimed that by extending an "etheric tube" from the third eye, it is possible for one to develop microscopic vision and telescopic vision.[1] It has been asserted by Stephen Phillips that the third eye's microscopic vision is capable of observing objects as small as quarks.[8]

Today
I have heard several people say that they have experienced precisely this magnifying effect when using certain ingestants.

In common day speech, we often refer to 'the sixth sense', and we have all received some kind of premonition or dream or foreknowledge that seems to have come from nowhere.

Perhaps a better understanding of the third eye could explain away many of those superstitions and misunderstandings, and open the flood-gates for a whole gamut of new knowledge.

The Future
The Pineal Gland

Some writers and researchers, including H.P. Blavatsky[7] and Rick Strassman, have suggested that the third eye is in fact the partially dormant pineal gland, which resides between the two hemispheres of the brain. Various types of lower vertebrates, such as reptiles and amphibians, can actually sense light via a third parietal eye—a structure associated with the pineal gland—which serves to regulate their circadian rhythms, and for navigation, as it can sense the polarization of light.

In 1910, William Walker Atkinson wrote a book called "Telepathy - theory, facts and proof',
(pdf available) and it would appear that knowledge of the third eye has been somehow suppressed - I never hear mention of it in school.

So it may be that something akin to the development of a third eye could be the next area of evolution for humans.

If we adopt positive thoughts on this, we can then take a peak preview into what might be in store for the human species, and even for ourselves if we get it together.

The Tibetan lamas have known in detail about the third eye for hundreds of years, and stories are written about the third eye being opened by inserting a sharp pointed stick into a specific point somewhere above and between the two eyes. The effects of the third eye opening are also described, in minute detail for anyone interested.(download here http://www.lobsangrampa.net/lobsang_rampa.html)
